Founder and Director

Dedicated to enabling self-leadership, Jethro is a champion of change. He knows first-hand the transformative power of reliable training and strong leadership. As an officer in the NZ Army he formed his vision for Future Leaders as he led instructors in the Limited Service Volunteer programme. By 2014 Jethro knew that life-skills needed ongoing support. His vision has helped hundreds of people take charge and lead into the future.


Co-Founder and Director

Davina has been part of the Future Leaders journey since the beginning. She brings entrepreneurial insight and financial oversight. With an astute head for business Davina ensures the business is action-oriented and results based. She is also the Director of the popular Marrzipan Drama which develops self-confidence, public speaking and social skills through performance-experience classes and workshops. 


Business Support Manager

Erin has an authentic desire to see a better life for all people and is inspired by the successful work of the Future Leaders’ team and the success stories of our youth. She supports the business aspects of Future Leaders by organising the processes around the high-functioning team. With a background in office management and administration, in public and private sectors, Erin has ensured excellent service delivery since 2016.

Yvonne Francis

Executive Assistant

Yvonne provides executive support to the Directors of Future Leaders. She is passionate about administration and organisation. Yvonne has over 20 years’ administration experience. She brings a broad range of knowledge and skills having worked in both the public and private sectors and across four countries. Yvonne enjoys supporting the team at Future Leaders and seeing transformative change take place in the lives of our youth.


Programme Co-ordinator – Wellington

Amy supports our Wellington team and takes pride in seeing rangitahi develop skills in physical and mental wellness. As a Future Leaders graduate herself Amy has gone on to study Education and Psychology, and appreciates the importance of developing resilience to overcome life challenges. Amy works with both mentors and government agencies to promote and monitor our programmes and provision of services. 


Regional Manager – Waikato

Megan empowers young people and supports them to be the best they can be. Originally from England, Megan loves sport and fitness. She studied Sport and Physical Education at university. With a background in the Police and in teaching, Megan enjoys seeing our rangitahi develop endurance and resilience. Megan collaborates with government agencies and manages our team and multiple youth programmes in the Waikato.


Senior Youth Mentor

Jay is committed to assisting youth into healthy productive lifestyles and he knows the powerful social change that can result. Originally from Fiji, Jay has worked in the youth development sector for over 15 years. In addition to mentoring, Jay designs and implements group workshops on a wide range of topics. He draws from a wealth of personal and professional experience bringing a deep understanding of the interplay of culture, connection and self-leadership.

Manaia Opai

Youth Mentor – Youth FOCUS Programme, Wellington

Manaia is a firm believer in helping people discover what truly motivates them and in supporting their personal development. With a background in business leadership, Manaia encourages personal integrity. He works alongside youth one-on-one and, through his mahi, sees multiple rangitahi transform their lives every year. Manaia helps youth grow a strong sense of self-sufficiency and he coaches each person to realise their full potential.


Youth Mentor – Youth FOCUS Programme, Wellington

Future Leaders was seeded in the defence force and still draws on tried and true transferable military skills. JP has ten years’ experience in the military; six of them as a team leader. He firmly believes in using fitness, teamwork and communication to make progress in life. JP has extensive experience in the youth sector as a leadership instructor and mentor. He works alongside our youth and guides each one to become their best self.



Youth Coach  – Ākonga Pathway Programme, Wellington

Future Leaders delivers the Ākonga Programme for youth who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. Paula leads this service in the Wellington and Wairarapa regions. She supports and guides 16 – 21 year olds to re-engage with their education or into further training or employment. Originally from Mexico, Paula is a trained Psychologist and has a background in the education sector. She is driven by the possibility of helping people to reach their potential. 


Youth Mentor, Waikato

Tau is proud to be part of the way Future Leaders helps individuals develop and grow. He particularly enjoys steering youth towards their individual and personalised goals. With a background in multiple industries, including the military, Tau brings comprehensive training and experience in leadership development. In groups and one-on-one he up-skills rangitahi in goal setting, problem-solving, communication and self-awareness, so they achieve their goals.


Youth Mentor, Waikato

Future Leaders opens up opportunities for rangatahi by helping them to realise not just who they are, but also who they can be. Catherine works alongside youth and as they explore potential the future brightens. With a background in education, Catherine has extensive experience in the youth sector in New Zealand and Ireland. Her mahi results in positive outcomes for individuals, communities and society.


Youth Mentor, Waikato

Josh is passionate about the way Future Leaders builds leadership capacity in young people. He has worked in the youth sector for years and is encouraged by improvements and changes he’s seen in that time. Josh holds a degree in Social Sciences and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership, specialising in Coaching and Mentoring. He partners with rangitahi to develop skills and attitudes for a positive future.


Youth Coach – Whanake Programme, Waikato

Hikitia enjoys empowering young people and their families. She works alongside rangitahi to help each person thrive. Hikitia’s genuine interest and care for people drives her passion for helping them prosper. With a background as an Employment Coach, and in program co-ordination at MSD, Hikitia brings a wealth of sector experience to every person.



Youth Coach – Ākonga Pathway Programme, Waikato

Future Leaders works with youth to establish a common understanding of what is needed to support their healthy development. With a wealth of experience, a background in transformative change and a diploma in Whānau Ora, Riini brings deep personal insight and wisdom to her coaching. She works one-on-one with rangitahi,  promoting a whole person approach that empowers individuals, whānau and communities. 


Tanekaha Murphy

Youth Coach  – Ākonga Pathway Programme, Waikato

Future Leaders recognises that youth development happens when young people establish, and maintain, positive connections in key environments. With a background in supporting communities, and experience in assisting tamariki and whānau as a Truancy Officer, Tanekaha supports youth with everyday challenges in their environment. He is passionate about the martial art of Muay Thai and enjoys engaging and motivating rangatahi.


Youth Coach  – Whanake Programme, Waikato

A descendant of Tainui, Jor’el is an experienced Whānau Ora Navigator, Mental Health Coach and proud father. He’s passionate about nature, building genuine connections with people and upholding tikanga and matauranga Māori (Māori values & knowledge). He has a whānau centred approach that empowers rangatahi to gain tools and empower themselves in their journey of self-discovery, self-love and personal development. Jor’el and Future Leaders believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience happiness, success and wellbeing.
